ABOUT

DANCE SHACK was established by Lucy Holloway and Garth Hall in 2006 in a church hall in Leatherhead, with seven students. At the time Lucy was Dance Captain on the national tour of “Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang”, and every Sunday would commute back from hundreds of miles away to teach. Since then the school has grown, with well over 800 students regularly taking classes in 7 schools. Many are represented by the school’s own agency, Shack Attack, for film, theatre and television work. We are delighted to be in partnership with Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing, and many of our classes are held in their excellent studios.

The Dance Shack way:

The school’s aim is to encourage everyone as an individual to gain confidence in performing in the three main areas of dancing, acting, and singing.  Through good teaching, grounded in solid technique, a student’s confidence is able to flourish.

Every teacher at Dance Shack has been trained at a top performing arts school and, most importantly, will have worked professionally and extensively in the business. THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE AT DANCE SHACK: our teachers have top-class, west-end experience in the professional theatre world. This maintains the highest standards and firmly roots the school in current working practices, giving students an understanding of the “real” performance world. We are very proud of our team, and students love the fact that they are learning from teachers who are still out there performing. We are also very proud of our yearly shows, which give all our students such valuable experience in performing on a professional stage, with professional production values. The boost these shows give to students’ self-confidence is wonderful to see.

Dance Shack is also about offering an enjoyable and friendly class where the student can gain confidence in daily life. It is impossible to list here all the ways that dance can help improve a child’s development, from sheer physical stamina, through improved co-ordination and posture to general wellbeing.

We are often told that Dance Shack is like a big family - we love that and look forward to welcoming you and your child.

I am thrilled to be patron of Dance Shack. These students are the future of dance and musical theatre, and I know that Lucy, Garth and their team will inspire and motivate them to reach for fabulous goals
